I’ve finally
made it the acting categories… and I am 3 for 3 for all four categories! So let’s get to it and keep the perfect
record alive!
But I shouldn’t
get too cocky. Everyone nominated for
Supporting Actress have received nominations in the past… and two of them have
won!
For a complete
look at eligibility and voting procedures, please take a look at last year’s
post: 84th Academy
Awards – Best Supporting Actress.
**********
Nominations:
·
Amy Adams – The Master
o
4th nomination.
Previously nominated for Junebug, Doubt, and The
Fighter.
I
am a huge P.T. Anderson film (Writer/Director of The Master)… however I
just didn’t get this film. That said,
the performances were fantastic… I just wish the film was as gripping as the
acting.
Adams
has won the Chicago Film Critics Association Award, Los Angeles Film Critics
Association Award, National Society of Film Critics Award, Vancouver Film
Critics Circle Award, and named Hollywood Film Festival’s “Supporting Actress
of the Year”.
·
Sally Field – Lincoln
o
3rd nomination, 2 wins for Norma Rae and Places
in the Heart.
Sally
Field was really good in this film, but I don’t think she’ll win. Sometimes merely standing next to Daniel
Day-Lewis is going to get you a nomination or two. That said, I have Field down as one of the
top 5 Best Actress performances… not Supporting.
Field
has won the Boston Society of Film Critics Award, Dallas-Fort Worth Film
Critics Association Awards, and New York Film Critics Circle Award.
·
Anne Hathaway – Les Miserables
o
2nd nomination.
Previously nominated for Rachel Getting Married.
Anne
Hathaway is my pick for the win. Her
performance in Les Mis was breathtaking and coupled with the box office
success of Dark Knight Rises, she has a huge leg up.
Hathaway
has won the BAFTA Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, Austin Film
Critics Association Award, Broadcast Film Critics Association Award, Central
Ohio Film Critics Association Award, Florida Film Critics Circle Award, Kansas
City Film Critics, Las Vegas Film Critics Society Award, Southeastern Film
Critics Association Award, and the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association
Award.
·
Helen Hunt – The Sessions
o
2nd nomination, 1 win for As Good as It Gets.
The Sessions is the only movie in this
category I haven’t seen yet, so I can’t really comment on Hunt’s performance…
but it doesn’t look like she’s been getting a whole lot of love beyond
nominations.
Won
the Palm Springs International Film Festival “Spotlight” Award and San Francisco
Film Critics Circle Award.
·
Jacki Weaver – Silver Linings Playbook
o
2nd nomination.
Previously nominated for Animal Kingdom.
Sadly
Weaver is the long shot here. Even more
so than Helen Hunt. Although Weaver was
spectacular… and totally believable as Robert DeNiro’s wife and Bradley Coopers
mother… she hasn’t won an away from her performance.

My Two Cents:
First of all, I was disappointed to see Kristen Scott Thomas (Salmon
Fishing in The Yemen) and Maggie Smith (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel)
left off this list. Hell, even Salma
Hayak (Savages) was great!
Anyway, most years the Screen Actors Guild Award for Supporting
Actress predicts the Oscar winner… and like last year with Octovia Spencer,
Anne Hathaway is going in with all three top awards: Screen Actors Guild,
BAFTA, and the Golden Globe.

Prediction:
1. Anne Hathaway – Les
Miserables
2. Sally Field -
Lincoln
3. Amy Adams – The Master
4. Helen Hunt –
The Sessions
5. Jackie Weaver –
Silver Linings Playbook
