o   Mark Paterson – 1st nomination.
o   Simon Hayes – 1st nomination.

To be honest, there is no reason to comment on the other films because Les Miserables has this one in the bag.  Until now, all movie musicals have recorded their singing tracks in a closed studio and edited the clean auto into the film post production.  Les Miserables marks the first time singing tracks have ever been recorded live on the set during filming.  This innovation will be rewarded by the Academy.

Also nominated for the BAFTA Award, 2 Cinema Audio Society Awards, a Motion Picture Sound Editors Award, and won the Satellite Award.

·         Life of Pi
o   Ron Bartlett – 1st nomination.
o   D. M. Hemphill – 8th nomination, 1 win for The Last of the Mohicans.  Previously nominated for Dick Tracy, Geronimo: An American Legend, Air Force One, The Insider, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and Walk the Line.
o   Drew Kunin – 1st nomination.
